Can your business survive without you?

I am often asked by business owners planning their exit, "how much is my business worth?" I may respond, "Can your business survive without you?"

One factor in determining value is the interdependence of owner and cash flow. Often times, the owner is the primary saleperson, or so immersed in operations, that business revenues and profits would be negatively impacted by their departure. This increased source of risk can significantly devalue a business -- and not just small business as this article attests.
